Biography
Porno-groove duo Paul Jay and Shaun Southall, aka FFF, have been busy boys since coming together in 2006, making a mockery of the traditional back to back DJ duo by remaining on the decks at all times, coming up only for air and jäger. Their sets ooze countless acapellas, loops, re-loops, filters and layers with massive build-ups and drops as they work every crowd into a frenzy.
2007-2008 was everything it promised with some massive nights both home and away. After launching their hugely successful EROTiQUE promotion in 2006, they were soon on the billing with some of the industries biggest names like Judge Jules, Martijn Ten Velden, Hoxton Whores and Herd & Fitz. In no time at all they began to make a name for themselves and bookings at some of Britains biggest clubs- Ministry of Sound, Escape, Pacha (Diverted Disco), Egg (Abstract) and Canvass (Dusted) led to an impressive 2007 Ibiza tour where they appeared in the main room at Eden for Dusted alongside Sir Norman Jay and The Hoxton Whores and at Cafe Savannah for Hat Club.
In 2008 they added 'Shuffle' @ Plug in Sheffield to their list of resindencies, supporting the likes of Justice, Digitalism, Rene Amesz and old pals Oliver Lang and Hoxton Whores in front of thousands of clubbers every month. It also saw their first appearance playing to over a thousand people in the notorious 'Box' at Ministry of Sound and giving memorable European performances at Mecca in Prague on their birthday weekend, appearing on the billing with the likes of Roger Sanchez, with other massive nights including Honey Club and Digital in Brighton alongside Freemasons and Kris Menace respectively and 7nebe in Brno with award-winning Czech DJ Laydee Jane. FFF saw the year out in Torquay to over 1500 clubbers as guests of Ministry of Sound at Play in a fitting finale to a memorable year.
2009 is providing them with their biggest platform yet- sharing the decks with the likes of Steve Angello, Laidback Luke, Calvin Harris, Judge Jules and Seb Fontaine, guest appearing for promotions like Hed Kandi and Lamerica and with their productions getting signed up quickly by Stylus Recordings with an EP to be released in Q4 containing the likes of 'Stupid Boy' and 'For your consideration' which have already been tearing up Europe's dancefloors, the action just doesn't look like slowing down for a second! They've also been hitting the airwaves with guest spots on Slinky FM, Point Blank, City Radio UK, SSRadio and Czech station Sensation Factory in preparation for their latest Central European tour as their profile gets bigger, better, faster, stronger. Next stop- world domination!
FFF's key component is an almost-telepathic understanding of each other, which allows both of them to contribute on the decks at the same time- via acapellas, loops, effects, layering and reloops, all utilised to produce a quite unique sound to satisfy any lover of house music but still leave them gagging for more!
FFF Backgrounds
FFF are Paul Jay and Shaun Southall. Prior to forming FFF, both had been DJ's in their own right, with Paul Jays’ story starts at the age of 16 where he won a DJ'ing competition beating over 30 finalists in the Berkshire-Hampshire region. This spurred him on to various big nights, including Housework in Taunton, with his synonymous brand of funky chunky house. By 2002 Paul was running his own night called 'Back2Funk', which showcased alongside Slinky at Creation in Bristol, Metros in Camarthen, Molokos and Vision in Cardiff and Mango in Reading.
Shaun picked up his first residencies back in 1998 but made his name as resident at The Matrix in Reading, winner of DJ magazines' 'Club Night Of the Year' back in 2001. Thereafter he guest appeared for the likes of Jelly Baby, Miss Moneypennies, Gifted and Stockholms' Pride festival in 2002 alongside the likes of MJ Cole, Jim Shaft Ryan, Fergie, Angel and Lisa Marie Experience.
With FFF the whole is even greater than the sum of the parts, with the two working together to consistently manipulate their sounds to create a unique flavour of cut-up, looped and filtered house music, with acapellas and loops galore. Long may this beautiful relationship continue!
